Queen’s University Belfast is seeking a supplier for the supply, delivery (unloaded and positioned at the point of use), installation supervision and commissioning of a fibre optic distributed temperature sensing (DTS) analyser (interrogator), cables and associated accessories for installation in shallow geothermal boreholes at three demonstrator sites: one in County Sligo (Republic of Ireland) and two in Greater Belfast (Northern Ireland). The equipment will monitor the subsurface heat resource to support research aimed at increasing the uptake of geothermal energy across the island of Ireland. The project is funded until September 2028; drilling at Demonstrator Site 1 is expected to commence from Q4 2026 and continue into FY2027, while drilling timelines at each site depend on the procurement timescales of each respective site owner and are therefore subject to change. The demonstrator sites are in urban settings and works will be carried out outdoors exposed to seasonal and inclement weather conditions.
